Kao Data's boss on the data centre backlash.

Good morning,

I'm off to King's Cross and later Canary Wharf for a couple of events.

Happening Today 📆

Digital Me: Top MP Chi Onwurah brings legislation to Parliament today to outlaw the use of personal data by tech companies to build digital twins without people's consent. The Chair of the Science, Innovation and Technology Committee will present the Personal Data (Digital Twins) Bill to the House of Commons as a Ten Minute Rule Motion, but it won't get much further without government support. Onwurah has also raised concerns about children being tracked through smart toys, apps and AI cameras.

SOFAIR, so good: The UCL's Science of Fundamental AI Research lab (SOFAIR) has its launch event at King's Cross today. At £30m, it is the biggest UK government investment in an AI lab and will develop novel architectures across statistics, mathematics, neuroscience and computer science to build alternatives to frontier models. Speakers include the lab's director David Barber and AI minister Kanishka Narayan.

Evening energy: Narayan is also among the speakers at Fuse Energy's "Building Abundance" event at its Canary Wharf offices this evening. Shadow energy secretary Claire Coutinho, James Wise and John Fingleton are speaking too.
