'Governments have AI FOMO'
George Osborne on his new gig + Stripe's head of product.
Happy Friday, I'm off to celebrate my sister's wedding in a Suffolk pub.
Today we've got George Osborne's talk at SXSW which Alys Key has covered. He talks about his job as OpenAI's chief diplomat, countries having AI FOMO and why job doomers are wrong.
I've also been speaking to Stripe's head of product in the UK ahead of the company's tour arriving in London next week about how AI is changing the payments business.
Happening Next Week 📆
On Monday Keir Starmer is due to open London Tech Week. In the afternoon business leaders gather at the Science Museum for the AI Adoption Conference.
On Tuesday the government's AI Hardware Plan is expected, while Tech Week continues at the Olympia.
On Wednesday the AI Summit London starts at Tobacco Dock. Stripe Tour London also kicks off at the Excel. In Parliament, the Cyber Security and Resilience Bill is back in the Commons and the Science, Innovation and Technology Committee is taking evidence on screens and children's brain development.
On Thursday the AI Summit London continues, while in Parliament DSIT bosses give evidence on research investment.
Friday, lie down.
