Win at AI and influence people

Kendall's next speech, plus the week ahead

Happy Monday and welcome back. I hope you all had excellent weekends. I was back in Cromer, watching my wife run very far but with none of these robots around.

Happening This Week 📆

Double bill: The Crime and Policing Bill and the Children's Wellbeing Bill are both back in Parliament today as the government seeks to get them through before this parliamentary session ends next week. MPs again rejected a social media ban in the Children's Wellbeing Bill last week, and the government will be asking peers to do the same this evening.

On Tuesday reps from TikTok, Meta, SnapChat and Roblox will talk to MPs on the Education Committee about the impact of social media and screentime on children. The Good Growth Foundation hosts a 'National Growth Debate' in Westminster, with speeches from Rachel Reeves, Darren Jones and Mel Stride, but Westminster's eyes will be on the Foreign Affairs Committee at 10:30am where Olly Robbins — the senior civil servant Keir Starmer has blamed for the latest Peter Mandelson scandal — gives evidence. Tech secretary Liz Kendall had the thankless task of defending her boss on yesterday's broadcast round.

The AWS Summit starts on Wednesday, while the Science, Innovation and Technology Committee will hold a pre-appointment hearing with the government’s preferred candidate for UKRI chair, Professor Sir Leszek Borysiewicz. In the evening, the Lib Dems will launch a 'Liberal Vision for AI'. On Thursday evening there's the first 'Londonmaxxing Meetup'.
