The AI boom not showing up in official stats
And why it matters.
Happy Thursday, sort of.
Itβs been a politics heavy week so today I'm stepping away from Westminster to look at how the UK is experiencing a surge in entrepreneurship helped by AI tools, especially among Gen Z.
But while this boom is showing up in industry data (LinkedIn and Stripe) it is not visible in government statistics and perhaps that's why it's so far been ignored by policymakers.
Happening Today π
Just in: Ofcom says age checks have significantly cut children's access to porn, dating and social media risks, but gaps remain ahead of the under-16 social media ban. It also announced an investigation this morning into whether TikTok is failing to protect children from harmful content and will look at the platform's age checks.
Later: At 11am the Lords will keep pushing the government over an AI Bill, while this evening Path Founders host a sovereign AI panel at Google's central London office.
In today's edition:
π The boom in AI entrepreneurship being missed by official stats.
