'UK shouldn't chase the biggest model'

Today, we've got an interview with the Alan Turing Institute's new chief executive George Williamson. The Institute, funded by £100m of public cash, has had a torrid few years and has cut several projects, but since May, Williamson, who comes from a national security background, has begun a turnaround and the early signs are promising.

Berlin Corridor: The UK and Germany announced an "Industrial Tech Corridor" to help British and German firms strike deals, as Andy Burnham arrived in Berlin this morning. It will connect tech companies with industrial partners and investors. Munich-based robotics firm MicroAGI said it will create 180 jobs in London, Proxima Fusion will expand its Culham workforce, and AI software firm Quantexa will build a unit in Germany. The two countries will also share a €20m pot for joint quantum research.
In East London: The first Deep Tech London Summit takes place in Shoreditch. The programme is based around five talks of "civilisational importance" — manufacturing, future compute, power, biology and space.
