Missing the threat
Peers attack Cyber Bill's AI gaps.
Happy Tuesday,
I'm on a very early train to our breakfast event in Westminster and looking forward to seeing some of you there.
Happening Today 📆
Tonight: Chancellor Rachel Reeves will announce an AI adoption plan for financial services at her Mansion House speech. The speech will include a scheme to re-skill city workers against job disruption. The Treasury also said yesterday it would expand the British Business Bank's Growth Guarantee Scheme, which gives a 70 percent guarantee on loans to SMEs of up to £2m.
Annual report: Innovate UK executive chair Tom Adeyoola and Regulatory Innovation Office chair David Willetts speak to the Science, Innovation and Technology Committee from 9:30am. MPs will ask Adeyoola about his first year in the job, Innovate UK's funding and its relationship with UKRI and DSIT. Willetts will also be quizzed on his first year at RIO.
In the Lords: UKRI boss Ian Chapman gives evidence to the Science and Technology Committee at 10:15am. Peers will then spend the evening debating the Cyber Security and Resilience Bill. More below.
Not Happening: The Representation of the People Bill has been withdrawn from the Commons today and won't return until the autumn.
Barnsley backing: Applications open tomorrow to the government's AI Upskilling Challenge Fund to help train people in Barnsley as part of its 'Tech Town' status.
