A left-wing tech alliance launches.
Good morning, I'm typing away in a Waitrose cafe just before closing time after a day looking at fields around Sutton Hoo.
Today, I've got some more info on the government's AI Economics Institute which will launch at London Tech Week and a new "progressive" tech alliance, which is also launching today, urging ministers to give the Institute a much bigger mandate.
In case you were actually enjoying the sunshine yesterday, today's intervention from the left comes the day after Tony Blair injected himself into the Labour leadership debate by putting forward a very different vision.
Happening Today 📆
Data drop: Dealroom is dropping a load of data ranking the tech scene in 325 cities and 77 countries at 2pm. Its Global Tech Ecosystem Index measures on investment, innovation and talent. London came in at number six last year, while Cambridge ranked third for the "density" of its ecosystem.
Lost gen: The first rung of the career ladder has "thinned" meaning for "too many young people it is now simply out of reach", Alan Milburn will say in a speech at 11am at the launch of his report into youth unemployment. The former health secretary was asked by the government to investigate why almost a million 16-24 year olds are not in education, training or employment.
Tune in: Synthesia chief executive Victor Riparbelli is among the guests on an AI-themed edition of BBC Question Time at 10:40pm in Dulwich. Darren Jones, chief secretary to the prime minister, will be representing the government.
